Position: Diesel Planner Estimator (Job ID: 4274)

Valkyrie Enterprises is seeking a Planner Estimator who is familiar with Naval Machine Systems as well as a person who is familiar with repair of a variety of shipboard machinery and components. We are looking for this candidate to work in Norfolk, Virginia.

Job Description:
  • Familiar with Amphibious Ship Diesel Maintenance Strategy to include the use of Engineering Approved Technical Procedures (EATPs).
  • Taking all ship’s force Alteration installation Team (AIT) and shipyard work, including service and repair routines, modernization and preventative maintenance actions, and presenting as work requirement statements at the SWLIN and Line-Item level
  • Provide detailed cost estimates, to the paragraph and trade level, for developed work specifications and new work written by planners
  • Maintains and manages cost estimating guide
  • Conducts ship checks to validate repair/alteration information
  • Provide estimates, based upon ship checks as feasible, for all solicitations assigned
  • Conduct the development of schedules and material procurement lists for all tasks assigned
  • Thoroughly review all work specifications and applicable reference materials to ensure a complete and accurate understanding of work scope requirements
  • Work from technical drawings, design memos and sketches, then validates on site requirements when developing specifications
  • Perform shipboard inspections, review of technical data, provide labor and material estimates, document and maintain the Machinery knowledge base data, write and review specifications
  • Write and review Depot level 4E specifications for the maintenance, inspection, and test and be able to diagnose improper operating procedures and equipment casualties/failures which support corrective actions on marine main propulsion diesel engines, diesel generators, and component systems
  • Inspects, maintains, and is familiar with repairs necessary on steam turbines used for ship’s propulsion and auxiliary equipment such as turbo generators, pumps, refrigeration/air conditioning and laundry equipment
  • Familiar with the operations necessary to effect repairs on ship propulsion machinery, refrigeration and air conditioning systems, air compressors and related electro-hydraulic equipment
  • Analyzes blueprints, drawing packages, and other documentation to prepare time, labor and material estimates for both shop and shipboard efforts
  • Assess ship’s material condition by reviewing ship check data, or conducting a ship check if required, researching ship documents, analysis of ship conditions and test, determining scope of work required by reviewing and validating Work Notifications (2-Kilos). Interpret and use all technical and material information available in Navy, Shipbuilder and Manufacturer drawings, technical manuals, documents, Equipment Manufacture’s data and/or other pertinent commercial data to identify:
    • Repair requirements
    • Modification requirements
    • Price Identification
    • Order materials
Qualifications:
  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering or science field, or high school diploma or equivalent and at least 8 years of experience in the Naval Marine Engineering field holding responsible engineering related positions, with successful completion of naval technical training schools such as the Naval Academy, a Merchant Marine Academy, or Military Class “A” or “C” school, which together with the experience will give the equivalency of a BS degree.
  • Must possess an overall understanding of modifying and repairing a variety of shipboard machinery systems and their components
  • Must be proficient with writing and reviewing Depot level 4E specifications for the maintenance, inspection, test and be able to diagnose improper operating procedures and equipment casualties/failures which support corrective actions on marine main propulsion diesel engines, diesel generators, and component systems
  • Must have a comprehensive and thorough knowledge of the full range of principles, concepts, and practices related to surface combatant ships, carrier and submarine repair and overhaul programs including ship modernization.
