Harris Technologies is seeking an In‑Service Engineer Electronics Specialist in Norfolk, Virginia. This employee will perform technical work primarily requiring practical knowledge of the methods and techniques of engineering and the construction, applications, properties, operation, and limitations of a complex naval submarine system.
- Engineering Support and Process Improvement:
Collect and provide data to Engineers as part of the Engineering Change Proposal (ECP) process. - Contribute to system improvements by leveraging work experience and technical knowledge.
- Review and provide input on new test procedures and related program documents.
- Field and Fleet Support:
Assist the In‑Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) and Alteration Installation Team (AIT) with Temporary Alterations (TEMPALTS), system certifications, modernization, and maintenance tasks at various Naval bases and shipyards. - Provide independent technical engineering guidance and assistance on assigned systems. Investigate, analyze and resolve problems pertaining to the design, installation, maintenance, operation or repair of the assigned system.
- Identify training gaps and create training products focused on improving those gaps in the submarine electronic warfare domain.
- Provide technical assistance for in‑water test events, including logistics, rigging, and de‑rigging of equipment.
- Troubleshoot circuit boards, isolate faults and perform necessary repairs, including replacing resistors, IC chips, and capacitors.
- Design, develop and calibrate instrumentation required for system installations. Adapt mechanical, electro‑mechanical, electrical, electronic and optical instrumentation for specific projects.
- Overhaul systems, including electrical and electronic work, followed by physical reassembly (disassemble, sand, paint, and reassemble equipment).
- Test systems on test stands to ensure they are Ready for Issue (RFI) and perform necessary repairs if they fail testing.
- Assemble fiber optic connections.
- Implement Engineering Changes (ECs) according to the instructions provided by Engineers.
- Obtain and maintain a Top‑Secret clearance.
- Travel up to ~30%‑35% as needed.
- Knowledge of Navy and Maintenance Engineering Requirements.
- Understanding of Navy, major command, and other levels of maintenance engineering program requirements relevant to the development of scheduled maintenance needs.
- Knowledge of submarines, surface ships, and weapons systems; familiarity with submarine and surface ship operations, weapons systems, and their operating requirements.
- Ability to perform technical engineering services that effectively address real‑world fleet needs.
- Active Secret clearance required.
- Bachelor’s degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate degree and a minimum of 4 years of related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
- Preferred:
Top Secret clearance to start. - Self‑motivated and able to work independently.
