Position Summary:

The Qualified Member of the Engineering Department (QMED) supports the safe and reliable operation of all engineering systems aboard Training Support Vessels. This role performs maintenance, repair, and operational tasks under the direction of the Chief Engineer and licensed engineering officers. The QMED stands engineering watches as assigned and contributes to the overall efficiency and readiness of the Engineering Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Serve as a member of the Engineering Department and support daily engineering operations.
Stand assigned engine room watches in accordance with the vessel's operational and watch standing requirements.
Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on propulsion machinery, auxiliary equipment, and engineering support systems as directed by the Chief Engineer or senior engineering officers.
Assist with routine inspections, equipment monitoring, lubrication, filter changes, and other preventive maintenance tasks.
Maintain engineering spaces in clean, safe, and well-organized condition.
Follow all safety, environmental, and engineering operational standards and procedures.
Support accurate recording of machinery readings, maintenance notes, and engineering log entries as required.
Assist with equipment operation and system monitoring during vessel movements, evolutions, and drills.
Perform other duties as assigned to ensure safe and effective engine room operations.

Requirements & Qualifications:

Valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with STCW endorsements including:
Able Seafarer - Engine, Rating Forming Part of an Engineering Watch (RFPEW), Proficiency in Survival Craft (PSC), Basic Training.
Valid USCG Medical Certificate meeting engineering service standards.
Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
Must possess or be eligible for a United States Passport.
Must meet physical and medical requirements for shipboard engineering duties, including the ability to work in hot spaces, climb ladders, and handle tools and equipment.
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and the ability to follow technical instructions.
Ability to stand rotating watches and respond to engineering emergencies as required.
Strong teamwork and communication skills to operate effectively within the Engineering Department.
Must meet all company and contractual requirements.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
