Duties

Help

You will serve as an Engineering Technician and be responsible for performing engineering technical work in diverse areas such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, naval architecture, marine engineering and industrial and environmental sciences by preparing designs and specifications for the alteration, repair, installation, redesign or maintenance of complex systems and machinery on Coast Guard vessels..

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
  • Developing, analyzing, and reviewing Statements of Work (SOW) and Independent Government Cost Estimates (IGCEs) in support of alteration, repair, installation, redesign, or maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and structural systems/components onboard USCG cutters and boats.
  • Conducting feasibility studies, designs, reviews, and lifecycle project cost estimates for Engineering Change (EC) projects supporting the installation, modification, and retrofitting of shipboard equipment.
  • Serving as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned systems and subject areas, providing technical direction to customers in support of vessel maintenance and repair.
  • Participating in Integrated Product Teams (IPT) / Tiger Teams to support development of new criteria or policies in resolving complex and unusual problems associated with the analysis, procurement, maintenance, modification, and repair of marine equipment and machinery.
  • Accomplishing ship checks on USCG cutters at homeport and drydock locations to obtain data for study, design, and review. Preparing reports and recommendations based on ship checks to support design, repair, and maintenance efforts.
  • Providing technical guidance to ensure methods related to alteration, repair, and maintenance actions comply with government and industry standards.
  • Engaging with various stakeholders to foster collaboration and teamwork in support of PBPL Engineering Branch initiatives and duties.
