Amentum is seeking a Deck Machinist Mate for MARMC Code 255 to provide technical services and assessments on US Navy Auxiliary equipment. The candidate will operate, perform preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot, test, conduct onboard maintenance training, assess, inspect, and maintain a variety of shipboard mechanical systems.
Responsibilities- Conduct specified engineering/technical evaluations and perform equipment functional checks.
- Perform troubleshooting, testing, analysis, operational oversight, and maintenance oversight for installed US Navy systems.
- Diagnose operational faults for installed US Navy systems.
- Provide training to ship’s force personnel in the operation, repair, maintenance, and logistics support of the listed systems.
- Support shipboard Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (HM&E) tasks including Total Ship Readiness Assessments (TSRA), Combat Systems Command Control Communications and Computer Readiness assessments (CRA), Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) programs, and Fleet Tech Assist (FTA) events.
- Schedule, coordinate, and document the MARMC technical assistance and assessment support process.
- Assist ship’s force technicians and government personnel in analyzing and resolving malfunctions detected during equipment operation, maintenance, and/or testing.
- Analyze equipment operational and inspection data to determine the source of faults, recommend repair, and assist with corrective actions.
- Advise on equipment/system engineering changes toward improving quality and reliability.
- Facilitate installations, maintenance, and repair actions.
- Observe equipment operation to note performance conditions and parameters for out‑of‑spec readings or degradations.
- Document and submit written feedback to correct errors or omissions in equipment documentation (technical manuals, PMS cards, APLs, ship’s drawings, schematics, etc.).
- Provide written/oral debriefs to the ship’s Chief Engineer (CHENG) and/or designated officers on all actions taken and the status of equipment or systems.
- Complete all jobs with a Technical Assistance Visit Report (TAVR) and distribute copies to stakeholders as directed.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Active secret US government clearance; US citizenship required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of full‑time, technician‑level experience within the last seven (7) years working on US Navy Auxiliary equipment such as Sliding Pad Eyes, Boat Davits, Cranes, Capstans, Antenna Tilting Groups, Chocks, Cargo Cranes, and Knuckle‑Boom Cranes.
- Demonstrated experience as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the above equipment in a US Navy Engineering Activity, US Navy Shipboard Engineering Department, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), or industrial/commercial equivalent.
- Working knowledge of Navy assessment programs, ship visit procedures, and post‑visit reporting methods.
- Proficiency with measuring/test equipment including dial indicators, milliamp process clamp meters, digital insulation testers, IR thermometers, clamp‑on current meters, digital tachometers, multimeters, etc.
- Strong organizational and technical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and laptop hardware/software.
- Ability to review, update, and close assigned jobs in the prescribed government database.
This is an hourly, overtime‑eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, employees may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour worked to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount received will vary depending on the fringe benefits selected.
