Position Overview

Senior Scheduler – Norfolk, Virginia. Monday–Friday 0700–1545.

Pay Scale

$68,325 – $91,100. This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role and takes into account factors such as skill sets, experience, training and education. Position

Summary

The Senior Scheduler is responsible for producing critical‑path, resource‑loaded production schedules and integrating NASSCO’s production schedule with Assist Integration Teams (AIT) and subcontractors. The Senior Scheduler will develop and provide production reports to the management team.

Position Demands – Education / Training

Typical qualifications: BA/BS in a related field plus two (2) years of directly related experience, OR AA/AS plus four (4) years, OR eight (8) years of directly related experience. Directly related experience in project or production management is preferred.

Position Demands – Required Experience
  • Knowledge of Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) standard items 009‑60 and 009‑111
  • Ship repair, overhaul and modernization processes and procedures
  • Repair and modernization Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) philosophy
  • Competency in Microsoft Office products and proficiency with scheduling software
  • Proficiency in activity definition, sequencing, critical‑path analysis, resource loading and leveling
  • Strong ability to develop master plans and detailed tactical schedules
  • Familiarity with estimating and contractual methods in a government environment
  • Ability to follow instructions and a willingness to learn
  • Knowledge of NASSCO safety and environmental policies
Physical & Visual Requirements

Physical requirements include the ability to carry, lift, walk, climb, pull, crawl, sit, crouch, stoop, kneel, stand and talk as required. Visual and hearing requirements include seeing and hearing adequately in a moderate noise environment.

Working Relationships

The Senior Scheduler reports to the Scheduling Manager. Internally, the role maintains contacts with Estimating, Engineering, Contracts, Supply Chain, Production Management, Trade supervision and Business Development. Externally, the Senior Scheduler works with subcontractors and NASSCO customers. The position has no direct reports.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Review project contract documents and drawings to determine scope and schedule development.
  • Organize scope into major categories to outline deliverables and milestones.
  • Sequence major work priorities into a logical schedule.
  • Determine critical paths that anchor overall project completion dates.
  • Modify critical paths based on prevailing conditions.
  • Create Work Breakdown Structures for all new work orders.
  • Understand work specifications and drawings.
  • Determine workflow with trade support.
  • Initially schedule all projects prior to definitive customer agreement.
  • Perform initial and final resourcing, assigning shops and using estimates to assign hours.
  • Attend scheduling reviews with production, trade and estimating personnel.
  • Report progress of scheduling during project execution.
  • Perform all scheduler principal responsibilities.
Accountability

The Senior Scheduler is accountable to the Scheduling Manager for accurate and timely schedules.

Unique / Additional Requirements

Must be willing to travel and possess reliable transportation. Must be a U.S. citizen and qualify for a Common Access Card (CAC) and a security clearance. Must maintain a reliable record of attendance and punctuality and be available for overtime. Must be physically able to transit all areas of the facility and work aboard marine vessels, drydock, climb ladders, work in tanks and confined spaces, and wear personal protective equipment.

These tasks may involve dirty, dusty, hot or cold, and noisy environments.
