Safety and Occupational Health Specialist; fire Safety Officer

Reporting to the Supervisory Safety and Occupational Health Manager (106BA) and the Director of the Environmental Safety and Health Department (ESH) (106) of MID ATLANTIC REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CTR (MARMC) located in Norfolk, VA, the role is Safety and Occupational Health Specialist (Fire Safety Officer).

Qualifications:

• At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
• Experience implementing and overseeing assigned safety and health programs with minimal supervision and ensuring all records are maintained in accordance with applicable requirements, incorporating regulations to mitigate workplace hazards.
• Experience reviewing submitted plans for compliance with safety, health, fire protection, and environmental requirements and providing recommendations for revisions to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Experience developing and delivering course material to promote safety awareness throughout the facility and satisfy regulatory requirements.
• Experience conducting independent accident/incident investigations to determine contributing factors and proposing/implementing corrective actions to leadership.
• Experience collecting and analyzing safety trends and metrics to highlight areas requiring additional oversight and presenting findings to leadership.
• Experience with shipboard damage control, fire safety principles, and firefighting practices (ship and shore-based).
• Experience with regulations and standards from Navy, NAVSEA, CNRMC, NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), and the FEMA National Incident Management System.
• Experience with Navy tag-outs, work authorization, ship drawings, and technical documents.
• Experience utilizing OPNAV Instructions and NAVSEA Technical Manuals related to fire safety and OSHA.
