Service Engineer – Hydraulic & Mechanical

Are you driven by problem solving? Do you thrive working with complex and large equipment? Mac Gregor is looking to hire a Service Engineer with hydraulic and mechanical competence. This hands‑on expert will perform repair, maintenance and service on critical marine equipment, including shipboard cranes, hatch covers, and deck machinery.

More Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Diagnostics and troubleshooting of hydraulic and mechanical equipment
  • Supervise and perform refurbishment, upgrades, inspections, preventative maintenance and corrective actions
  • Identify service and spares sales opportunities and communicate them to the line manager
  • Support overall service goals and budgets
  • Prepare detailed service reports and documentation for all work performed
  • Ensure that all activities comply with the Integrated Management System (IMS), QHSE and other Mac Gregor standards

Reporting directly to the Operations Superintendent, Operations Americas and North Sea. The position will be based in Mac Gregor’s office in Norfolk, Virginia.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

You have a background in the merchant, offshore, naval or maritime industry, with a primary focus on hydraulic and mechanical equipment. Knowledge and experience in basic electronics are a plus.

Qualifications
  • Technical education in electrical or mechanical disciplines, or a similar relevant field
  • Minimum 3 years of hydraulic and mechanical experience
  • Basic working knowledge of electronics, experience with PLCs is a plus
  • Previous experience with ship and/or port cranes, winches
  • Willingness and ability to travel for extended periods
  • Fluent in written and spoken English

Compensation

Salary ranges from $70,000 – $85,000 per year based on skills and experience. Plus overtime.
