Job Description

Duties:

  • Serve as the PPE for assigned vessels, including those powered by steam and/or diesel and/or gas turbines, and include responsibility for the life cycle management of those ships.
  • Manage the ships Life Cycle Plan by reviewing, planning, and coordinating the maintenance, repair, and alteration activities requiring industrial assistance for assigned ships.
  • Approve plans, work items, and cost estimates for maintenance and repair and ship alteration work for assigned ships.
  • Review all technical reports, submittals, and documentation submitted by other engineers, regulatory bodies, design engineers, shipyards.
  • Review recommended equipment for all configuration changes to verify ease of maintainability, cost of maintainability, suitability, and effectiveness of logistics support.
  • Review applicable current and proposed quality and safety management system procedures for accuracy and applicability to assigned ships.

Requirements Conditions of employment:

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications:

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Expert experience in a wide range of shipboard main and auxiliary systems, including main propulsion systems, electrical generation and distribution systems, heating ventilation and air conditioning systems, refrigeration systems, firefighting systems, cargo systems, fuel systems, lubrication systems, communications systems, seawater systems, auxiliary boiler systems, piping systems, ship's structure, coating systems, habitability, etc.
  • In addition to the broad range and type of systems, the incumbent must have specialized experience of the broad range of marine propulsion systems, including gas turbine systems, steam turbine systems, high/ medium/ slow speed diesel systems and diesel electric systems.
  • Mastery experience of advanced naval engineering and naval architecture principles and related engineering fields enabling the incumbent to serve as an expert in the areas of ship design, operation, maintenance, repair and modernization.
  • Expert experience of regulatory body (ABS, USCG, etc.) requirements for design, maintenance, and repair of vessels in the United States and understanding of International Maritime organization (IMO), International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution by Ships (MARPOL), and the application of Statements of Voluntary Compliance to international…
