Reporting to the Senior Tax Manager, the Tax Compliance Specialist is responsible for preparing, calculating, reporting, and remitting indirect taxes and real and personal property taxes. This individual is also responsible for filing and renewing business licenses for all the companies within the group. This position also assists with income (direct) tax matters as directed by the Senior Tax Manager, including responding to IRS notices and inquiries.

the Role

Gather information for the preparation of indirect tax returns (Sales Tax, Gross Receipts Tax, B&O Tax, Excise) as well as real and personal property tax returns based on jurisdiction, product type, and taxability rules.

Responsibilities
  • Timely preparation and submission of indirect tax returns and real and personal property tax returns to government authorities.
  • Draft sales tax exemption certificates under supervision of Senior Tax Manager and maintain up-to-date file of certificates provided to vendors.
  • Calculating and paying taxes on behalf of the company for US and Canada.
  • Conduct tax research on matters related to Sales and Use Tax, Goods and Services Tax, and excise duties to ensure compliance with government requirements and minimize risk.
  • Assist in preparing, reviewing, and managing documentation for tax audits and responding to inquiries from tax authorities.
  • Assist direct tax group and business units with other compliance tasks as directed by Senior Tax Manager.
Qualifications
  • Required:

    Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2-5 year's experience in performing the functions and responsibilities listed.
Required Skills
  • Knowledge of U.S. federal and state income tax laws
  • Experience preparing U.S. federal and state income tax returns
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to understand the details and effectively share with others in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to perform complex tasks independently, solve problems and achieve results while managing multiple priorities
  • Strong skills in tax research
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to meet deadlines
Preferred Skills
  • Preferred: CPA Certification is preferred
