The Staff Accountant supports the Controller with general ledger duties, month-end close, reconciliations, payroll accounting, and financial reporting. This role maintains accurate financial records, assists with compliance activities, and provides backup transactional support when needed.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties- Perform month-end close tasks and prepare journal entries (accruals, prepaids, amortization, reclasses).
- Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts monthly and review GL activity for accuracy.
- Prepare payroll-related journal entries and reconcile payroll and benefit accounts; coordinate with HR as needed.
- Reconcile corporate credit card statements.
- Maintain fixed asset records and prepare depreciation entries.
- Assist with sales tax, property tax, and other compliance schedules.
- Assist with audit schedules and documentation at the direction of the Controller.
- Support financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Provide occasional backup support for transactional functions (AR/AP/cash application) during absences or peak periods.
- Apply GAAP and government contracting requirements (CAS, FAR, DFARS) in daily accounting tasks to support compliant financial operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 2–5 years of accounting experience, manufacturing preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and month-end close.
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP systems (Plex a plus).
- Strong attention to detail, organization, analytical skills, and communication.
- Ability to manage deadlines, handle confidential information, and work independently.
- Must be able to pass a thorough background check including a drug screen.
