Payroll Processing Lead
Job Description
The primary objective of this position is to perform the full range of payroll processing activities to include calculation, preparation, processing and reconciliation in an accurate and timely manner of the semi‑monthly payroll and other special payrolls as needed for Old Dominion University employees to include faculty, faculty administrators, graduate assistants, classified, student and wage employees following University policy and procedures, Commonwealth of Virginia policies, Federal and State tax laws, garnishment laws and other governing bodies as required.
Qualifications- Considerable knowledge of accounting and/or bookkeeping skills.
- Working knowledge of payroll policies, procedures and processing.
- Working knowledge of payroll tax regulations, wage‑hour regulations, state and federal tax and garnishment laws and regulations concerning payroll and payroll deductions.
- Some knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability with data processing systems and data entry on a mainframe computer and PC software applications (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to perform complex mathematical computations, utilize a calculator and computer keyboard.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people and to perform under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Considerable customer service experience.
- Some experience working with or processing full payrolls in an automated system.
- Some experience working with state and federal payroll tax laws and regulations.
- Supplementary education or training in finance, accounting and math.
- Some data processing training.
- Some experience using BANNER.
Overtime is required during peak periods. The position is designated as sensitive; a fingerprint‑based criminal history check will be required of the final candidate.
CompensationAnnual salary commensurate with education and experience.
