Payroll Processor
Location: Norfolk, VA
Position Type: Classified, Full Time
Responsibilities- Perform the full range of payroll processing activities including calculation, preparation, processing, and reconciliation of the semi-monthly payroll and other special payrolls as needed for Old Dominion University employees (faculty, faculty administrators, graduate assistants, classified, student, and wage employees) in an accurate and timely manner.
- Ensure compliance with University policy and procedures, Commonwealth of Virginia policies, federal and state tax laws, garnishment laws, and other governing bodies as required.
- Handle overtime payroll processing and demonstrate flexibility during peak periods.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and reconcile discrepancies.
- Working knowledge of payroll policies, procedures, and processing.
- Familiarity with payroll tax regulations, wage-hour regulations, state and federal tax and garnishment laws.
- Basic knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Proficiency with data processing systems and data entry on a mainframe computer and PC software applications.
- Ability to perform complex mathematical computations, utilize a calculator and computer keyboard.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working with or processing full payrolls in an automated system.
- Experience with payroll taxes and Federal and State tax laws.
- Customer Service orientation when working with the public.
- Moderate accounting and/or bookkeeping skills.

- Overtime required during peak periods.
