Under direct departmental supervision, the Clinical Pharmacist accurately reviews medication orders and dispenses medication for the pediatric population in accordance with American Society of Health System Pharmacists and Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group standards. Reports to department leadership.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Ensures safe and effective drug therapy throughout the medication distribution process, from review of physician orders to accurate preparation and administration of medication.
- Responds to drug information inquiries from other healthcare professionals.
- Provides oversight and supervision of pharmacy technicians and pharmacy interns.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must possess a Virginia Pharmacy License or be eligible for licensure within four months of hire.
- Graduate of an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy.
- Interpersonal skills to communicate and cooperate with hospital administration, staff, patients, families, and guests regarding drug therapy.
- Analytical skills to ensure medications are prepared in accordance with professional standards and practices.
- Critical thinking skills to determine when to consult and advise physicians and patients about medication use and possible side effects.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Good standing and maintenance of continuing education requirements with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy.
Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature changes, and the like.

Shift Information8‑hour shifts with a 30‑minute unpaid lunch break.
Shift start times vary: 6 am, 7 am, 7:30 am, 9:30 am, 10 am, 11:30 am, 2 pm, and with notice 10:30 pm.
