Responsibilities
The Assessment & Referral Clinician will coordinate all aspects of the acute process from time of inquiry through admission, providing crisis intervention and evaluation services.
Key responsibilities include:
- Oversees acute referrals and admissions
- Completes voluntary, involuntary, direct, and mobile admissions
- Maintains confidential clinical and financial records for all patients served
- Acts as the court liaison, coordinating with Community Services Boards and local intake agencies
- Ensures service excellence delivery
- Provides telephonic and face‑to‑face mental health triage, assessment, and crisis intervention on‑site and at emergency facilities
- Develops and maintains productive 1:1 relationships with referring agencies, parents, and legal guardians
- Participates in admissions on‑call weekend rotation and assists with evening/overnight shifts
- Coordinates and participates in civil commitment hearings and subsequent processes
- Verifies administrative process completion for acute admissions (insurance verification, consent packet, patient labeling, and biopsychosocial assessment)
- Fosters effective communication in the milieu consistent with therapeutic goals, promotes dialogue, and serves as a role model for patients
- Interprets facility and departmental policies and works cohesively toward organizational objectives
- Works collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to achieve quality patient care and professionalism
- Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related social science
- None (or no licensure/certification required)
- Minimum one year of experience in mental health counseling, crisis intervention, and/or acute psychiatric settings
- Knowledge of psychiatric diagnostic and treatment terminology, crisis intervention techniques, biopsychosocial assessment, and mental status examinations
- Computer skills (basic math, personal computer, Excel, Word, telephone, copier, fax machine)
- Physical ability to stand, squat, kneel, sit, and reach, lift up to 50 pounds, and manage physical demands of the role
Night Shift: 10:00 pm – 8:00 am with rotating weekends and holidays.
