The Department of OBGYN at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University is seeking an outstanding Medical Receptionist to join the team.
This position is responsible for greeting patients, answering the telephone, scanning pertinent patient data into the electronic medical record, checking patients in and out, verifying patient insurance and referrals, and scheduling appointments for Maternal Fetal Medicine, OB Generalist, and Uro-gynecology office.
Responsibilities- Answers incoming calls and handles them by transferring or entering a message in Epic when appropriate. Complete intake sheet on new patients.
- Check out patients and schedule follow-up appointments.
- Schedule/reschedule clinic and ancillary testing appointments.
- Responsible for working/maintaining In Baskets in Epic and assisting with reports as needed.
- Verify patient information for accuracy.
- Call patients for bumped appointments to reschedule them.
- Check-in and check-out patients, obtain referrals when appropriate, schedule outside appointments with specialists when requested and handle hospital consultations.
- Register existing and new patients, verify demographics and insurance, determine insurance copays, collect money and copays to send to the Medical Group, and post all payments collected into Epic.
- Obtain authorizations and referrals from physician’s offices.
- Professional, customer service-oriented individuals are required.
- Must have some working knowledge of computers and typing skills.
- One year experience performing related functions in a doctor’s office preferred.
