Biomedical Technician
Summary
The Biomedical Technician I is responsible for ensuring that equipment utilized by the organization for the diagnostic, therapeutic and monitoring care of patients is safe, reliable and functioning properly in order to ensure the delivery of quality patient care. Reports to department leadership.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on various types of medical and patient care equipment.
- Performs initial inspections and installations of clinical equipment and devices.
- Works with equipment manufacturers on repairs and scheduled equipment service.
- Responds to high priority service calls from hospital units in a timely manner.
- Assists in projects and performs other duties as assigned.
- None required.
- A.S. in Biomedical Technology preferred. A.S. in other technical/electronics or equivalent military training accepted, or two years of equivalent experience in a technical/electronics field.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage time effectively and document work appropriately.
- Possess good attention to detail and have the ability to disassemble/reassemble equipment for repairs and maintenance.
- Be able to accurately interpret and follow manufacturer service documentation and perform the required service tasks.
- Possess good analytical skills and have the ability to properly utilize test instrumentation for troubleshooting and fault isolation.
- Should possess good computer skills and knowledge.
- Some local travel may be required. Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet the insurability policy requirements to drive a CHKD vehicle.
Biomedical work environment with occasional exposure to hazardous materials and unpleasant odors from chemicals. Possible exposure to infectious agents when handling or coming into contact with contaminated surfaces. Potential for personal harm or injury is reduced when proper safety and health precautions are followed. Exposure to general construction environment. Exposure to X-Ray radiation possible.

Additional InformationServicing and maintaining patient beds, stretchers and cribs will be a primary responsibility for this position. Prior experience and/or relevant electrical/mechanical/hydraulic knowledge is desired. Additional clinical equipment responsibilities will be assigned as department/organization support needs are identified.
