Overview
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Cardiac Procedural and Surgical Unit. This is a Full Time, Day Shift (12-hour shift) position.
Hours and Shift7:00 am to 7:00 pm – Three 12-hour shifts (36 hours per week), with rotating weekends and holidays.

Department OverviewThis 24-bed unit provides high acuity cardiac care for pre and post cardiac surgery patients, including bypass surgery, cardiac valve repairs/replacements, and other cardiac procedures such as ICDs and permanent pacemakers. The unit also cares for patients with cardiac arrhythmias, heart failure, and chest pain.
ResponsibilitiesThe Patient Care Technician provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal. The PCT complies with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse and documents patient conditions in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any changes to staff.
Education- High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
- Additional requirement: one of the following:
Sentara Care Partner Certification Program;
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA);
National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA);
National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT); US Navy Hospital Corps School;
Emergency Services (EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic); current student enrolled in a clinical program beyond prerequisites having completed at least one semester of a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Respiratory Therapist (RT) or Physical Therapist (PT) program; current work experience within the last three years as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Nursing Assistant.
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
