POSITION OVERVIEWThe Engineer (ICT Systems) – FAS Specialist provides technical administration and support for Community of Interest (COI) and
Functional Area
Services (FAS) systems within a NATO environment, ensuring these systems remain available, performant, and compliant with established Service Level Agreements, while configuring and maintaining a mixed Windows/Linux server environment, administering enterprise services such as DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, GPO, and ADFS, and managing SQL Server and Oracle database platforms; acting as a technical authority on FAS and C2 system interoperability, the Specialist monitors, troubleshoots, and resolves incidents across systems, applications, and databases, drives automation of routine administrative and operational tasks through scripting (Power Shell, Python, Bash, JavaScript) to improve efficiency, maintains ongoing security hardening, patching, and vulnerability mitigation, provides direct end-user support and cross-domain stakeholder coordination, and documents configurations, procedures, and best practices to support operational continuity and knowledge transfer, all requiring an experienced ICT professional with SME-level knowledge of NATO C2 systems and architectures, a currently active NATO SECRET clearance, a demonstrated track record supporting mission-critical, multinational environments, occasional physical tasks (including lifting equipment up to 25 lbs and desk-side installation work), and strong written and spoken English proficiency for effective coordination across NATO stakeholders.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer COI/FAS systems, ensuring availability, performance, and compliance with Service Level Agreements;
- Configure, maintain, and optimize Windows/Linux servers, databases (SQL/Oracle), and supporting enterprise services (e.g., DNS, DHCP, AD, GPO, ADFS);
- Provide technical guidance and ensuring interoperability for FAS and C2 systems;
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve system, application, and database incidents in a timely manner;
- Support execution of NATO exercises by implementing and adapting system configurations;
- Automate administrative and operational tasks using scripting tools to improve efficiency;
- Perform system maintenance, updates, and security hardening, including vulnerability identification and mitigation;
- Provide technical support to end-users and coordinate with stakeholders across multiple domains;
- Document configurations, procedures, and best practices to ensure continuity and knowledge sharing.
- Some lifting of equipment (up to 25lbs) and physical work (desk installations) might be required.
- The candidate must have a currently active NATO SECRET security clearance
- Extensive experience managing and administering COI/FAS systems, including support to NATO exercises and ensuring interoperability across commands
- Strong expertise in Windows and Linux server administration, system configuration, performance tuning, and security hardening
- Advanced database management skills (Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle) and enterprise IT services (DNS, DHCP, AD, GPO, ADFS)
- Proficiency in scripting (Power Shell, Python, Bash, JavaScript) for automation and operational efficiency
- Proven troubleshooting, system optimization, and end-user support capabilities in mission-critical environments
- SME-level knowledge of NATO C2 systems, ICT architectures, cybersecurity practices, and experience working in multinational environments.
- Language requirements: A thorough knowledge of English, both written and spoken, is essential.
