The AWS Cloud Subject Matter Expert is a full-time, on-site role based in Norfolk, VA. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing AWS cloud architectures to support secure, scalable, and highly available systems for NVI clients. Day-to-day tasks include assessing requirements, proposing AWS solutions, configuring and managing core cloud services, and collaborating with engineering, security, and project teams to integrate cloud capabilities into broader IT environments.

The AWS Cloud SME will create and maintain documentation, standards, and best practices, provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to stakeholders, and support troubleshooting, performance tuning, and cost optimization activities. The role also involves ensuring compliance with security and regulatory requirements, participating in architecture reviews, and contributing to continuous improvement of NVI’s cloud delivery frameworks.

• Cloud architecture and engineering skills, including hands-on experience with AWS core services (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM) and designing secure, scalable, and highly available solutions.
• Infrastructure and operations skills in areas such as networking, virtualization, Linux/Windows administration, monitoring, logging, and performance optimization in cloud environments.
• Security and compliance skills, including implementing IAM controls, encryption, security best practices, and working with frameworks or standards relevant to federal or regulated environments.
• Automation and Dev Ops-related skills, such as infrastructure as code (e.g., Cloud Formation, Terraform), CI/CD integration, and scripting (e.g., Python, Bash, Power Shell) for deployment and management.
• Solution design and consulting skills, including requirements gathering, technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and the ability to communicate complex topics to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
