Pro Sidian Seeks a Court Transcriptionist for a DoD/Military sector engagement. The role involves listening to audio recordings and typing the contents into written documents, ensuring grammar, spelling, and accuracy, and maintaining confidentiality.
Responsibilities- Efficiently operate word processing and transcription equipment.
- Follow log notes, identify all speakers, and accurately annotate exhibits.
- Listen to audio files and transcribe them into text files.
- Proofread and correct draft documents, ensuring accuracy before submission.
- Maintain equipment, report malfunctions promptly.
- Adhere to client confidentiality and government regulations.
- Provide read‑backs and playback of real‑time transcripts when requested.
- Meet deadlines and produce transcripts with correct punctuation and formatting.
- Maintain and update the online dictionary for stenotype and steno mask recordings.
- Index and catalog exhibits.
- Continuously improve transcription skills through drills and training.
- Support parameter adjustments to meet client requirements.
- Remain flexible for work at various locations within 50 miles of Norfolk.
- At least 2 years of full‑time paid reporting or court reporting experience.
- Strong knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, spelling, and legal terminology.
- Typing speed of 85+ words per minute with high accuracy.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and multitask under pressure.
- Good research and computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Windows.
- Experience with legal transcription software and remote dictation.
- High degree of familiarity with grammar and sentence structure.
- Excellent writing, proofreading, and editing abilities.
- Exceptional listening and concentration for extended periods.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and work quality.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional integrity, self‑motivation, and organizational ability.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Zoom, and basic desktop applications.
- Physical ability to lift 20 lbs, bend, pull, push, and stand for long periods.
- Discretion, confidentiality, and a professional demeanor.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 2 years as a court reporter, legal transcriptionist, or stenographer.
- Courses or apprenticeship training and certification as a professional court reporter or equivalent.
- Typing proficiency 85+ words per minute.
- State public notary license (approved and up‑to‑date).
- Certified Notary Public (preferred).
- NCRA Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) or equivalent license.
- Professional certification as a Shorthand Reporter (CSR) or Verbatim Reporter (CVR).
- Valid driver’s license.
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Background clearance up to Top Secret or “Q.”
Occasional travel may be required to meetings, site visits, or training. Travel within 50‑mile radius of Norfolk, Virginia, including Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Hampton, Newport‑News, and Williamsburg.
LocationWork will be conducted at or within 50 miles of Norfolk. Proceedings may be recorded in offices, ships, or court/tribunal spaces.
