General Dynamics NASSCO is seeking Shipfitters J‑4 in Norfolk, VA. Five openings are available for the 1st shift (6:00 AM – 2:45 PM, 45‑minute lunch) with no security clearance required.
Work will involve ship construction, repair, conversion, and maintenance for commercial and national defense assets.
ResponsibilitiesShipfitters J‑4 will plan and complete work with little supervision using blueprints, construct and install ship structures, and assist with the overall readiness of the U.S. Navy.
Qualifications- Plan and complete work with little supervision using blueprints.
- Plan layout of plates, pipes, and structural shapes, including complex layouts with projections and compound angles.
- Understand ship-related nomenclature and locate structures relative to frames, longitudinal stringers, centerlines, etc.
- Know weld symbols and how they apply to material preparation for welding.
- Apply skills such as tack welding, burning, and use of power tools (shears, saws, presses, etc.).
- Create templates as needed for fabrication or installation of ship structures.
- Assemble foundations, deck houses, and specialized structures for all areas of the ship.
- Follow 5S guidelines and adhere to standard items.
