Summary
The Manager, IS Applications is responsible for the operational performance and the effective coordination of critical computer systems for the health system. They retain 24‑hour responsibility but may utilize supervisory staff to operationalize activities. The manager is expected to independently carry out assigned responsibilities but seeks guidance from the director or upper management when unusual or unanticipated circumstances arise that require deviation of policy/practice or allocation of funds to resolve.
The manager reports to departmental leadership.
- Provides oversight and leadership to staff engaged in complex computer system support, administration, maintenance, and upgrades of computer applications throughout the health system.
- Performs duties as a project manager for complex computer system implementation, vendor relations, and issue resolution.
- Ensures timely communication of work status and identifies application, process, and quality improvement opportunities for effective implementation and ongoing support.
- May perform the duties of other positions supervised and other duties as assigned.
- Leads, manages, coaches, and trains a team or department, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure optimal performance and productivity.
- Oversees recruitment, hiring, orientation, performance appraisals, and disciplinary actions, including up to termination processes, for a team or department.
- Epic Certification training is required. Must attend the first available class and obtain or maintain certification in the applicable module(s) within 30 calendar days of completing training.
Education and Experience
- Professional knowledge of areas of responsibility to direct planning and implementation at a level normally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or relevant combination of education and experience.
- Five or more years of healthcare or health IT experience.
- Demonstrated progressively responsible experience supporting complex computer systems.
- IS project experience.
Education and Experience
- Epic Systems experience strongly preferred.
- Excellent organization, communication, and written skills.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare electronic medical records processes.
- Ability to plan, supervise, and establish a professional working environment within areas of responsibility.
- Ability to identify problems and implement solutions for operational and organizational issues.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to direct and assign work to subordinates, explain hospital and department policies and procedures, and communicate effectively with other professionals.
Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, and other similar conditions.
