Duties
* You will insure that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations.
* You will independently dismantle, move, and relocate various types of shipboard machinery such as generators, diesel engines, and their accessories or install new machinery.
* You will provide information to the supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems.
* You will interpret and apply the requirements contained in technical manuals, shop directives, multi-view blueprints in determining critical dimensions and key reference points.
* You will install and repair more complex marine equipment and machinery such as steering assemblies, power drives, main propulsion reduction gears and lubricating and control systems. Requirements Conditions of employment

* You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
* You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
* This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
* This is a bargaining unit position. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

* Answering workers questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (e.g., technical orders)
* Disassembling and making onsite repairs to marine equipment and machinery such as engines, and sea valves, operating machinery and other shipboard equipment such as air compressors, fuel pumps, condensers, and air ejectors.
* lnsuring that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations.
* Checking work in progress and finished work to ensure supervisors instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met.
* Examining and troubleshooting to determine the extent of repairs required, and materials or parts needed.
* Providing information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems (e.g., additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees).
* Assuring that safety and housekeeping rules are followed ( e.g., assures that machine capacities are not exceeded and that tools are properly used).
