Job Summary:
A Gas-Free Tank Cleaner is responsible for cleaning, ventilating, inspecting, and preparing tanks, vessels, and confined spaces for maintenance, inspection, or repair. The role involves removing hazardous materials, ensuring tanks are gas‑free and safe for entry, and following all environmental and safety regulations.
- Clean storage tanks, fuel tanks, marine tanks, and industrial vessels using specialized equipment and cleaning agents.
- Test atmospheric conditions using gas detection equipment to confirm tanks are safe for entry.
- Remove sludge, residue, scale, and hazardous waste materials.
- Operate pumps, pressure washers, vacuum trucks, ventilation systems, and other cleaning equipment.
- Follow confined space entry procedures and lockout/tagout (LOTO) protocols.
- Wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist with tank inspections and maintenance preparation.
- Dispose of waste materials according to environmental regulations.
- Maintain accurate safety and cleaning records.
- Work closely with supervisors and safety personnel to ensure compliance with OSHA and company standards.
Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience in industrial cleaning, tank cleaning, marine services, or hazardous material handling preferred.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and physically demanding environments.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and confined space procedures.
- Ability to use gas monitoring equipment and industrial cleaning tools.
- Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime and emergency call‑outs.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and enter confined spaces.
- Comfortable working in hot, cold, wet, or hazardous conditions.
- Must be able to wear respirators and protective suits for extended periods.
