Position: PP&P Specialist (COSIS) - Work Location JAPAN

PP&P Specialist

The PP&P Specialist is responsible for performing proper Package, Packaging & Preservation requirements of all stored materials, ensuring that products are protected during transportation, storage, and handling in the execution of the COSIS APS‑4 Storage Facility and Vessel Storage requirements.

The role involves using packing and packaging materials, markings, processes and procedures in accordance with MIL-STD-2073-1E, MIL-STD-129, AR 740-1, AR 740-26, AR 740-3, DOD Manual 4140.27, ASTM D3951 and TM-38-470 to maintain materiel in ready‑for‑issue condition and prevent uneconomic deterioration.

The PP&P Specialist shall receive, inspect, inventory, preserve, pack and store repair parts, OPSTOCK and materials for APS‑4 COSIS operations, working closely with the Supply Department to ensure all vessel COEI, BII, OBSL, SKOs, TMDE, special tools and associated equipment are properly preserved, packed, labeled and stored.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all products are packaged according to company standards and meet quality control requirements.
  • Read and interpret product specifications to select correct packaging materials.
  • Assemble and pack products in boxes or other containers safely and efficiently.
  • Inspect products for defects or damage and report issues to the Senior Supply Specialist.
  • Label and mark packages with information such as weight, destination, and shipping details.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, handling machinery, and managing materials to prevent injuries and accidents.
  • Verify pouch and packages are correct for the storage of parts, materials and supplies, ensuring item storage codes, labels and counts per box are correct.
  • Identify and properly describe HAZMAT, dangerous, hazardous, or restricted materials, packaging, marking and labeling them per regulations.
  • Mark packages with "Fragile", "Handle with Care", "Right Side Up", "Keep Dry", etc., in English and with appropriate international symbols to prevent damage.
  • Upload material data into GCSS-Army, provide packaging job sheets, and manage stockage location within GCSS-Army.
  • Perform tasks requested by the General Manager or Senior Supply Supervisor as required by COSIS operations.
  • Perform additional duties and acquire certifications in support of COSIS Operations as requested.

Position Specifications:

  • Minimum of 3+ years experience in package design, development, and preservation techniques for parts, materials and supplies storage.
  • Proficiency in printing processes, labeling requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Experience with GCSS-Army database and internal storage management modules preferred.
  • MS Office Suite, Outlook, web applications, and document publishing applications (preferable).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, adaptive and flexible to meet business needs.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures, lockout/tagout, emergency stops, PPE guidelines.
  • Basic inventory management, scanning, and data entry skills.
  • Operational skill with pallet jack/forklift for moving materials.
  • Basic machine troubleshooting to minimize line stoppages.
  • Material handling, loading and unloading packaging materials and finished products safely.
  • Measurement and calibration using calipers, scales, and rulers for accurate dimensions.
  • Documentation and record-keeping: production logs, quality checklists.
  • Machine operation: setup, operate, and monitor packaging machinery.
  • Quality control checks: visual inspections, weight checks, seal integrity tests.
  • Support commitment to safety and company standards and certifications.
  • Drug-free work environment with random drug testing required.
  • U.S. citizenship required with ability to obtain a security clearance from DSS.
