Position: Fabrication Associate - Manual Machining
Pay: $24.00 - $27.00/hour
Shift: 1st Shift | Monday-Friday
Current Seasonal Schedule (adjusted for heat) : 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM

The Lee Group is seeking skilled Fabrication Associates with manual machining experience to join one of our valued clients' Pump Repair Service Center in Norfolk, VA. This is a hands-on machine shop position focused on repair work, custom fabrication, and one-off machining projects in a non-production environment. This is not a CNC machining role.
The ideal candidate will have experience operating manual machine tools such as horizontal boring mills, vertical turret lathes, horizontal lathes, and milling machines. Successful candidates are detail-oriented problem solvers who can interpret technical drawings, perform precision measurements, troubleshoot repairs, and work independently with minimal supervision.

Job Responsibilities of Fabrication Associates - Manual Machining
- Manufacture, modify, and repair pump components according to specifications, drawings, and work instructions.
- Operate manual machining equipment including horizontal boring mills, vertical turret lathes, horizontal lathes, milling machines, and related shop equipment.
- Perform repair-based machining and troubleshooting on industrial pump components.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders.
- Measure and inspect components using precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Machine parts to tight tolerances and quality standards.
- Perform incoming and outgoing inspections of components and completed work.
- Operate overhead cranes and perform rigging activities safely.
- Support pump teardown, repair, assembly, and rebuild activities.
- Complete all required production, inspection, and repair documentation accurately.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Approximately 5 years of manual machining experience preferred .
- Experience operating manual lathes, mills, boring mills, VTLs, and similar machine shop equipment.
- Strong blueprint reading and technical drawing interpretation skills.
- Experience using precision measuring instruments and working to close tolerances.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair components rather than strictly performing repetitive production machining.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Welding experience is a plus but not required.
- Apprentice and junior-level candidates with strong foundational machining skills may be considered.
- Work is performed in a machine shop environment that is not climate-controlled .
- Schedule adjustments may occur seasonally due to environmental conditions.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting required.
- Regular use of machinery, overhead cranes, and industrial equipment.
- Exposure to noise, moving mechanical parts, and typical manufacturing conditions
- Must be able to safely lift, move, and position materials and components as required.
- Must follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment.
Starting pay ranges from $24.00-$27.00 per hour and may be adjusted based on experience, skills, and overall fit following the interview process.
