Harris Technologies, Inc. is seeking an Assembler in Norfolk, VA. The assembler will use processes, drawings and technical data sheets to fabricate, test and assemble components that make up cable assemblies utilizing copper and fiber optic pathways.
- Perform kitting of cable/connector parts and cutting cable to required lengths by drawing.
- Inspect assemblies at various stages of construction for conformance to drawings and standards.
- Terminate fiber optic cables.
- Polish fiber ferrules using machine methods.
- Test fiber optic cables for insertion loss and return loss.
- Use an optical time‑domain reflectometer for troubleshooting.
- Perform visual inspection using Fiber Optic Visual Inspection Systems (FOVIS).
- Perform end‑face inspection using an interferometer.
- Conduct consistent quality‑control checks.
- Maintain detailed records of test data.
- Set up and operate cable analyzers for Hipot testing.
- High School Diploma or equivalent; or 2‑year post‑secondary/associate’s degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience, or 6 years of prior experience.
- Experience terminating fiber optic cables and polishing fiber ferrules.
- Strong understanding of fiber‑optic testing.
- Attention to detail in performing quality‑control checks and maintaining comprehensive records.
- Knowledge of advanced cleaning methods to maintain a contaminant‑free environment.
- Ability to meet industry and military standards for fiber‑optic termination.
- Can work under limited supervision.
- Knowledge of fiber‑optic test equipment.
- Experience building harnesses for equipment cabinets.
- Experience with recording data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Experience soldering and building cable assemblies.
Salary range: $41,500–$76,500. Benefits include health and disability insurance, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, EAP, education assistance, parental leave, paid time off, and company‑paid holidays.
