The Opportunity
The main objective of this position is to elevate the Port of Virginia’s (The Port) brand, visibility, and messaging by executing The Port’s communication strategy across digital and traditional channels.
What You’ll Do:Responsibilities
- Develops and edits content and materials that amplify the Port’s brand and story across digital and traditional platforms and events, ensures message alignment with organizational goals, and maintains the Port’s reputation and voice:
Creates light to moderate visual design assets such as social media graphics, presentation layouts, event collateral, and report visuals, ensuring brand consistency and high production high-quality written content (e.g., announcements, social posts, talking points, messaging frameworks, presentations) aligned with the Port’s strategic priorities. - Maintains and executes a content calendar, integrating social media, digital assets, event communications, speaking engagements, and recurring reports.
- Assists with managing the Port’s social media presence; develops and executes weekly social media plans, including copywriting, graphic development, posting, performance tracking, and reporting.
- Collects, monitors, and analyzes key marketing performance indicators (KPIs) across digital and traditional channels to inform content strategy and make data-driven decisions.
- Prepares and maintains a weekly shared activity report outlining communications progress, deliverables, and timelines to ensure transparency and alignment.
- Ensures consistency and alignment with the Port’s brand identity and reputation across all digital and physical touchpoints.
- Adapts messaging from public announcements, press releases, leadership statements, and industry events to expand reach across digital platforms.
- Supports key events and initiatives with hands‑on content creation, design support, presentation development, and onsite or post‑event communications.
- Leads the development of external‑facing reports (e.g., sustainability report) in partnership with internal subject matter experts.
- Supports internal and external strategic communications for initiatives such as the strategic plan and company‑wide engagement and informational events by preparing presentations, talking points, supporting documents, and event coordination.
- Coordinates with the VP, Growth and Strategy for content review and approvals on all public‑facing or cross‑functional communications.
- Maintains budget tracking and requests approvals from the VP, Growth and Strategy for content development, event collateral, and communications tools.
- Manages, develops, and evaluates the performance of the Communications Specialist, ensuring clear direction, prioritization, and quality.
- Independently executes communications deliverables as needed to ensure continuity of operations, balanced workloads, and timely delivery across the communications function.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- The Port of Virginia is a 24‑hour, 7‑day‑a‑week, 365‑day‑a‑year operation, schedule and location may vary based on the needs of the operation.

EducationBachelor’s degree in related field
Licenses, Certifications, and CredentialsValid driver’s license and Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) are required.
Work ExperienceFive years of relevant experience required; experience in logistics / supply chain preferred
