Position Overview

Sentara Heart Hospital located on the campus of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Cardiac Cath Holding Recovery Unit.

This is a Temporary Full time Day shift Traveler position.

Hourly rate: $70.

Education and Licensure
  • Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or diploma in the Nursing Field required.
  • Virginia or Compact Multi-State License in good standing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Experience
  • Must have two or more years of current acute care hospital RN experience, related to ICU, PACU, or Cardiac Cath.
Department/Position Overview
  • The unit is the Cardiac Assessment, Recovery, and Evaluation Unit.
  • Unit hours are 6:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. Monday through Friday; admission and recovery mostly during the day.
  • Prepares and recovers patients for procedures in the Cath lab, EP lab, Minor Procedure Room and Cardiac Operating Theatre.
  • Average patient volume each day 40–60 patients (inpatients and outpatients).
  • Procedures include Cardiac Catheterization (interventional and diagnostic), Electrophysiology procedures such as ablations, cardioversions, surgeries, ICD/Pacemaker placements, etc.

In the recovery area, RNs are trained to remove arterial and venous sheaths from femoral, radial, and brachial sites; perform nursing assessments per procedural guidelines; and to elevate patients who become critical or cannot achieve their pre‑operative baseline. The role requires lifting, pushing, pulling and standing for long periods.

Ideal Traveler Candidate
  • Experience with Cardiac holding areas, PACU Phase II, sedation recovery (moderate sedation or general anesthesia), or similar areas.
  • Preferred experience pulling sheaths in femoral, radial, and brachial sites; vascular complication management; epidural and GTT management post‑operatively; etc.
Shift Information

Full Time, 36 hours a week, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. No weekends or major holidays.
