Sentara Heart Hospital Located on the campus of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia is hiring a Registered Nurse for the Advanced Heart Failure Specialty Unit.

Unit OverviewThe Advanced Heart Failure Unit is a 24‑bed specialty unit that provides high‑acuity cardiac care to patients with severe heart failure, pre/post heart transplant, the Total Artificial Heart, and pulmonary hypertension. The unit utilizes high‑tech equipment such as mechanical circulatory support (ventricular assist devices, LVAD, BiVAD) and telemetry monitors.
Environment requires 24‑hour consistent communication and intricate interdisciplinary teamwork skills. Nurses typically handle 3–4 patients per shift, depending on acuity level.
Responsibilities- Deliver competent nursing care using the nursing process and evidence‑based practice.
- Adhere to standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation) and professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education).
- Coordinate and provide education and health promotion to patients and families.
- Participate in interdisciplinary teamwork to ensure coordinated care.
- Utilize advanced cardiac technology, including LVAD, BiVAD, and total artificial heart systems.
- Associate’s Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required).
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s (MSN) preferred.
- Virginia RN License required;
Compact/Multi‑State eligible acceptable. - All direct‑care RNs must obtain BLS within 90 days of hire.
- Critical Care/IMCU ACLS required within 1 year of hire.
- No previous experience required.
- Prior healthcare experience preferred.
