Overview
Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support our offices located in Norfolk and Virginia Beach.
Responsibilities- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for oncology patients in an outpatient setting
- Initiate and document appropriate interventions
- Evaluate and record patient and family response within practice protocol
- Prescribes drug therapies per protocol/physician consultation
- Assess patient and family needs and provide education
- Promotes/provides staff education
- Serve as a liaison between inpatient, skilled nursing, and home setting
- Incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice
- Physical demands:
Handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, ability to bend, stoop, twist; assist patients in moving, arising from exam table or bed, push wheelchair patients, assist patients in arising from and returning to a wheelchair; standing and walking for extensive periods; occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 40 lb; requires full range of body motion;
corrected vision and hearing to normal range. - Work environment:
Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment.
- Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program for nursing education and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program or successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Two years of post Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant hematology/oncology experience is preferred
- Experience and knowledge in the management of the physiological and psychological effects of cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment
- RN State License and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state, along with current state certification of Nurse Practitioner or current state license as a Physician Assistant
- Current CPR certification required
- Must be willing to travel to the various practice locations
