Position Overview

Registered Nurse (RN) for Cardiac ICU (CICU) at Sentara Heart Hospital located on the campus of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Compensation & Sign-On Bonus
  • Night shift positions
  • Sign-on bonus up to $20,000 for qualified candidates
Responsibilities
  • Perform competent nursing care using the nursing process and critical thinking model.
  • Implement assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation.
  • Adhere to professional performance standards (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice, nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, environmental health).
  • Provide direct patient care in the CICU (10 beds, 2nd floor) caring for cardiac, pulmonary hypertension, heart attack, heart failure, sepsis, shock, and other ICU-level needs.
  • Serve as part of the Medical Response Team for the hospital.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Associate Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required);
    Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
  • Licensure:
    Virginia Registered Nurse license;
    Virginia or Compact/Multi-State Eligible.
  • Certification: BLS within 90 days of hire; ACLS within 1 year of hire.
  • Experience:

    ICU experience or 1 year of Intermediate/Stepdown care with cardiac knowledge; or 2 years of Medical/Surgical, PCU, or ED experience (1 year for ED).
Program & Training

The 12‑week Nurse Transition to Practice Program includes classroom learning, preceptor‑led orientation, and 8 sessions with live simulations, case studies, and problem-based learning covering patient assessment, respiratory and cardiac care, vasoactive medications, hemodynamics, invasive monitoring, post‑op care, sedation, and communication with providers and families.
