Purpose: Steel America, a division of Colonna's Shipyard, is seeking a QC‑NDT Inspector to support structural fabrication operations in Norfolk, VA.
Job Description- Oversee and monitor inspections, documenting results on required forms.
- Perform VT, MT, PT, and UT inspections as required.
- Analyze documents, drawings, customer requirements and quality procedures to ensure compliance with customer and company standards.
- Generate, review, and/or submit condition‑found reports, test and inspection plans, process control procedures, test documents, and corrective action reports (CAR) to document customer requirements or non‑conformances.
- Maintain and inventory test equipment and gauges.
- Prepare presentation materials, teaching aids, handouts, etc., and conduct training when requested.
- Perform audits and/or surveillance as needed or assigned.
- Work independently to complete responsibilities.
- Travel to work locations when required, both CONUS and OCONUS.
- Abide by all safety requirements.
- At least five (5) years of experience in NDT and Quality Control/Assurance in structural fabrication.
- Combination of any NDT certifications: VT, MT, PT, and/or UT.
- Extensive knowledge of AWS D1.1 (Structural Steel), D1.2 (Aluminum), D1.5 (Bridge Code), and D1.6 (Stainless Steel).
- Experience with dimension accuracy control.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, communication, and writing skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to access Government Facilities.
- Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items, ISO requirements, and other government specifications.
- Understanding of and experience with ABS construction standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 products.
- Valid driver's license with a clean DMV record.
- Reliable attendance.
- Experience with Department of Defense and direct government customer relations.
- CWI certification preferred.
- GD&T experience preferred.
- Occasional travel; 25% or less of total time.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, climb, reach, push and pull, stoop, crawl, kneel, balance, lift and carry various objects and equipment.
- Frequent movement up to 65% of the time in a shipyard/industrial environment.
- Comfortable with standard office equipment and occasional work in shipyard/industrial environments.
- Capacity to climb up and down stairs and move throughout facility and onboard marine vessels.
