Certified Officers
Certified Officers are eligible for up to $14,000 in sign‑on and retention bonuses upon successful completion of service milestones.
Hourly rate of $29.18 equates to $60,694 annually based on 2080 hours. Shift differential, overtime pay, holiday pay, generous paid time off and benefits, volunteer pay, retirement plans, and promotion opportunities are also offered. The Port of Virginia does not participate in VRS.

The Virginia Port Authority (VPA) is a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The VPA owns and, through its private operating subsidiary, Virginia International Terminals, LLC (VIT), operates four general cargo facilities:
Norfolk International Terminals, Portsmouth Marine Terminal, Newport News Marine Terminal, and the Virginia Inland Port in Warren County. The VPA leases Virginia International Gateway and the Port of Richmond.
The VPA is seeking Police Officers to perform a variety of law‑enforcement duties such as responding to calls for service, enforcing traffic and criminal laws, and conducting high‑visibility patrols on marine terminals.
What You’ll Do- Perform security patrols of designated areas on foot or in vehicle to deter crime, preserve law and order, and safeguard life and property.
- Warn, issue summons, or make arrests for violations of state laws, local ordinances, or VPA rules and regulations.
- Conduct interviews with victims and witnesses and gather information and evidence regarding investigations.
- Respond to calls for the protection of life and property, as well as enforce laws, local ordinances, and VPA rules and regulations.
- Control traffic flow and enforce state and local traffic regulations. Issue citations, make arrests, and participate in investigations.
- Maintain compliance with MTSA regulations in accordance with the Facility Security Plan.
- Provide assistance to customers, employees, and visitors in a courteous and professional manner that instills trust and respect within the community.
- Investigate and prepare factual reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities. Prepare related documentation promptly and accurately.
- Testify in courts and hearings. Prepare documentation and present case evidence.
- Inspect and maintain assigned patrol car, uniform, and equipment. Ensure all equipment works properly and report any defects needing correction.
- Remain knowledgeable of court opinions and new, innovative law‑enforcement techniques to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
- Perform all other duties assigned.
