Third (Nights) – 11pm to 7am (8-hour shifts), 5 days on, 2 days off.

Overview

Sentara Health is hiring an Armed Security Officer for Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, VA. The role is a full‑time night shift position. The Armed Security Officer provides a physically safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and employees at Sentara Hospitals and free‑standing emergency departments. Officers exercise discretion regarding weapon use, only deploying it when all non‑violent options have been exhausted.

The officer actively monitors Concealed Weapons Detection System(s) at division entrances, informs visitors/patients of banned weapons, may secure the weapon for safekeeping, patrols the campus, monitors activity in and around buildings and grounds, and responds appropriately to routine and emergency situations. Responsibilities include camera surveillance, maintaining department logs and records, using computer skills for documentation of daily activities, conducting security investigations, evaluating situations, and taking appropriate steps for professional and timely resolution.

Education
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
Certification & Licensure
  • Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (Required)
  • Virginia DCJS – Armed Officer Certificate within 90 days of hire (Required)
  • Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certification by International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) within 90 days of hire (Required)
Experience
  • One year of security experience (Required)
  • Former military or law enforcement experience (Preferred)
