The purpose of this position is to provide personnel security support to the National Defense University.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Security Specialist provides comprehensive security support across personnel security, information security, physical security, and Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) management programs. This position requires knowledge of security policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to ensure the protection of personnel, facilities, information, and classified materials.
- Support security management personnel with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) indoctrinations, debriefings, and security awareness activities for employees, students, faculty, contractors, and other authorized personnel.
- Prepare and submit Visit Clearance Certifications and SCI visit requests in accordance with established security procedures.
- Capture electronic fingerprints through the Secure Web Fingerprint Transaction (SWFT) system for individuals requiring background investigations.
- Coordinate and schedule fingerprinting appointments and maintain records of fingerprint requests and processing activities.
- Prepare and review fingerprint card submissions for personnel requiring initial background investigations.
- Provide administrative and customer service support for onboarding employees, contractors, students, faculty, and other personnel.
- Maintain personnel security records and data within security management systems, including the Defense Information System for Security (DISS), National Background Investigation Services (NBIS), and other authorized databases.
- Review personnel security files, verify clearance eligibility, and provide guidance regarding security clearance requirements and processes.
- Initiate and process background investigations through NBIS and associated electronic application systems.
- Update, verify, and validate investigations, security clearances, and visit certifications using Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) systems.
- Support physical security programs, including restricted area identification, access control, badge management, and escorting uncleared personnel within controlled spaces.
- Assist with the implementation and compliance of Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community Directive (ICD) physical security standards related to the protection, construction, and accreditation of secure facilities and SCIFs.
- Maintain access rosters for personnel authorized to enter designated secure and classified areas.
- Support information security programs by ensuring proper handling, safeguarding, storage, accountability, transmission, and destruction of classified materials in accordance with established policies and directives.
