Convergint is looking for a full‑time, enthusiastic, results‑driven and forward‑thinking Fire Alarm Project Technician to join our company. In this role you will install, program, perform system start‑up/check‑out, testing/commissioning, customer training, and all associated documentation on assigned projects including more complex projects.

What

You’ll Do
  • Installs, programs, tests, repairs, and services a variety of systems and equipment which may include security, fire alarm & life safety, and/or building automation with guidance as needed. The colleague is the key interface for the provision of technical support and training for the customer and is accountable for maximizing customer satisfaction.
  • Working knowledge of blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation procedures unassisted, may require assistance with more complex specifications.
  • Interprets manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams and repairs equipment, utilizing knowledge of electronics and using standard test instruments and hand tools.
  • Working understanding of building, mechanical, sprinkler and fire codes.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced colleagues.
  • Operates systems to demonstrate equipment, commission new systems, analyze performance and identify malfunctions. Writes routine programs for systems.
  • Consult with engineering personnel to resolve unusual problems in system operation, maintenance, and warranty work.
  • May advise management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, installation techniques and standards as well as suggestions for product improvements.
  • Executes many of the technical aspects of multiple projects with varying timelines and budgets including programming, graphics development, start‑up, certification testing, customer training, close‑out documentation, and ongoing technical support.
  • Identifies potential project risks, communicates to appropriate parties and assists in the development and implementation of strategies to minimize impact and control deviations from estimated costs and project deadlines.
  • Works with Fire Alarm Designer to ensure fire alarm system meets all relevant codes and standards.
  • Works closely with the Project Manager and/or Operations Manager and assists in the overall coordination of specific projects; makes recommendations regarding quality of work and potential changes in scope and identifies ways to continuously improve customer satisfaction.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Exceptional customer focus and ability to work under pressure; can maintain awareness of and seek to meet the needs and wants of the customer without being prompted.
  • Ability to convey complex subject matter to a non‑technical audience.
  • Willing to learn technical skills and/or experience related to fire alarm systems, and/or electronic security systems.
  • Self‑starter who works well with little supervision.
  • Understanding of electronics including Ohm’s law, resistor color code and relay logic for control of third‑party equipment.
  • Solid mechanical and electrical aptitude (e.g., hand and power tools such as drill, screwdriver, wire stripper, hacksaw, crimper).
  • Experience programming, troubleshooting and commissioning Edwards or equivalent fire alarm systems of small to medium complexity.
  • Willingness to coach and mentor less experienced colleagues.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • NICET Level II in Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Low‑voltage electrical license as required by local/state authority.
  • Ability to travel locally to jobsites on a regular basis; minimal overnight travel may be required.
