Position: Aircraft Mechanic I

Position

Immediate opening for an Aircraft Mechanic I in the Aircraft Repair operations at NAS Norfolk, VA.

Responsibilities
  • This mechanic repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units.
  • Uses hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, welding equipment, rivet gun, and drills.
  • Works with hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
  • Reads and interprets manufacturers', airline's maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Replaces or repairs worn or damaged components such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, engine‑mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves.
  • Removes engine from aircraft using a hoist or forklift truck, disassembles and inspects parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, repairs or replaces defective engine parts, reassembles, and installs the engine in the aircraft.
  • Adjusts, makes repairs, or replaces electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories.
  • Performs preflight, thru‑flight, and post‑flight maintenance inspections.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
  • Supervises the jacking and towing of aircraft.
  • Enters maintenance records describing the work performed and verifies the work meets satisfactory standards.
  • Services engines and airframe components at line station, making repairs short of overhaul.
  • Maintains aircraft in safe operating condition, specializing in repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts, assemblies, and engine repair.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Requires an Active Secret Clearance.
  • Graduate of Military Service Aircraft Maintenance Program or A&P License highly desired.
  • MH-60S Maintenance Experience highly desired.
