Job DutiesNorfolk State University’s (NSU) Department of Facilities Management provides a campus environment that is conducive to working and learning through systematic maintenance, repair, and renovation and construction of campus buildings, facilities, and infrastructure.
Norfolk State University invites applications for Electrician Technician II. Electrician will assist in maintenance of all building and exterior electrical repairs, as well as equipment and machinery repairs.
- Inspects and tests electrical lighting, signal, communication, and power circuits and equipment. Change bulbs when needed.
- Isolates defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment, using suitable testing instruments.
- Uses appropriate electrical testing meters to test circuits and verify power.
- Replaces faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators, and other simple elements of electrical systems, fixtures, and appliances to ensure proper operation per trade practice.
- Ensures all work performed meets required safety codes.
- Work requires knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma or GED or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and components.
- Ability to receive Journeyman’s Electrician certification within 1 year of employment.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Journeyman Electrician license.
