Responsibilities
Pipe fitters (Sheet metal Workers) are responsible for piping hydraulic and pneumatic systems, bending, and shaping sheet metal, and light fabrication. Journeyman pipe fitters must be able to read hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, be familiar with repair shop equipment and tools, have welding/burning experience, and have at least 3 years’ experience doing pipe fitting work or pipe work as applied to buildings, machinery, and heavy equipment.
Some experience in sheet metal work will be helpful. Journeyman status is preferred but will consider those with less experience to fill student Pipefitter positions.

- Valid driver’s license
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Experience using measuring devices
- Basic technical knowledge of diesel mechanics/ repair experience

Work ConditionsWorking hours will include shift work over all 3 shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Shifts are assigned/awarded by seniority. The work environment is a shop and outdoor work.
TrainingPipe fitters (Sheet metal Workers) will undergo 1 week of Mechanical Safety Orientation during their first week of employment and 6 weeks of craft specific training, at the Norfolk Southern Training Center in McDonough, GA. During the training, trainees will be reimbursed for one round-trip and provided lodging and meal cards ($20/day).
