Gov First is seeking a dedicated and safety-focused Maintenance Technician to support onsite operations in the Hampton Roads, VA area. This position is responsible for assisting with the maintenance, repair, inspection, and upkeep of movable bridges, equipment, machinery, and facilities. The ideal candidate will have basic mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting abilities, and experience working with tools, equipment, and general maintenance activities.
Responsibilities- Assist with maintenance and repair work for movable bridges and related infrastructure.
- Support the maintenance, inspection, and repair of industrial machinery, electrical systems, generators, plumbing systems, and other equipment.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and operational issues.
- Assist installation, maintenance, and repair personnel with equipment repairs, parts replacement, and maintenance activities.
- Furnish tools, materials, and supplies to maintenance personnel as needed.
- Perform general labor duties including painting, cleaning, debris removal, sweeping, shoveling, and site upkeep.
- Clean work areas, machinery, equipment, and tools to maintain safe and organized work environments.
- Hold materials, tools, and equipment for technicians during maintenance and repair activities.
- Perform preventive maintenance services on machinery, generators, and other equipment.
- Conduct daily and weekly equipment inspections and prepare inspection reports.
- Assist with custodial duties and lawn maintenance activities as required.
- Maintain compliance with all workplace safety procedures and requirements.
- Participate in emergency response and on-call assignments as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Basic troubleshooting abilities involving industrial machinery, electrical systems, generators, plumbing systems, and related equipment.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
- Ability to perform physical labor in indoor and outdoor environments.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Motivated, dependable, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Computer training and Microsoft Office experience preferred.
- Knowledge of basic safety practices, hand tools, and power tools.
- Valid driver's license required.
- CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
- Must successfully complete a post-offer physical examination and medical history review.
