Travel: Open to regional travel

Pay: $23.00/hr – $30.00/hr (Based on experience)

Overview

We are currently looking for Concrete Finishers to join our Wagman Heavy Civil team, starting at our Latex projects in the Norfolk, VA area. The ideal candidate will have experience in heavy highway and/or bridge construction, flatwork, and performing concrete finishing operations on surfaces such as parapets, caps, columns, footings, deck slabs, and more. Driver's license and reliable transportation are very helpful;

must be able to work outdoors year round.

This is a safety sensitive position requiring work on construction sites with various hazards inherent in heavy construction. This position is subject to drug testing and compliance policies associated with our status as a Federal Contractor.

Core competencies include: design-build, infrastructure, marine construction, modified concrete, grooving and grinding, and geotechnical construction services.

Responsibilities
  • Smooth and finish surfaces of poured concrete parapets, caps, columns, footings, retaining walls, abutments, deck slabs and other concrete structures to specified grade and texture.
  • Use hand tools and power tools including floats, trowels, edgers and screeds.
  • Remove rough and defective spots from concrete surfaces using power grinder or power chisel.
  • Patch holes or defects with fresh concrete or epoxy compound.
  • Wet and rub concrete with hand tools to achieve desired finish.
  • May be temporarily assigned to carpenter or labor-type work to fill in between finishing duties.
  • Carry, load, unload and stack materials.
  • Shovel, rake, spread and vibrate concrete into place.
  • Climb embankments and ladders to carry material to various work sites on project as needed.
  • Jackhammer and saw cut concrete.
  • Clean up project site of debris.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED preferred with basic reading and writing skills. Related work experience may substitute.
  • 3+ years of experience finishing concrete, preferably flat work or highway and bridge work; experience with finishing tools such as bull float, trowels, straight edges, and more.
  • Familiar with concrete finishing, paving, concrete, highway and/or bridge construction.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with finishing tools including but not limited to edgers, screeds, and trowels.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 150 ft.; experience working with concrete.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Driver's license preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds from ground level to waist level and up to 30 pounds to above shoulder level; must be able to work at heights up to 150 feet.
  • Continuous standing and walking; ability to climb ladders and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Must be able to perform simple grasping and fine manipulation tasks with both hands.
  • Must be able to bend, squat, kneel and crawl; work on uneven surfaces and in confined spaces.
  • Normal corrected vision and hearing required.
Essential Functions
  • Apply and finish concrete surfaces to required texture and grade.
  • Operate hand and power tools typical for concrete finishing.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area; follow site safety protocols.
