Job SummaryThe Field Service Technician will troubleshoot, maintain, service, and repair pumping and support equipment safely and efficiently, both on-site and at customer sites in the surrounding Norfolk areas. We seek a mechanically strong field technician with hands‑on troubleshooting experience on engines and industrial equipment. The ideal candidate can perform basic diesel engine diagnostics (distinguishing fuel, oil, and cooling issues) and work independently in the field, tracing problems from symptom to root cause.
Direct pump experience is not required; training will be provided.
- Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance and servicing as directed on Godwin fleet equipment between each rental.
- Troubleshoot diesel engine, electrical systems and pump problems.
- Rebuild diesel engines and pump ends.
- Assist customers and Xylem personnel in setting up pumping systems at customer job sites; perform start‑up duties and resolve any problems.
- Perform an initial inspection of Godwin fleet equipment for possible damages; diagnose damages; report damages to Service Manager.
- Test all repaired equipment for proper operation and quality.
- Perform preventive maintenance on company vehicles and shop support equipment.
- Perform diagnostic checks using computer technology.
- Participate in the on‑call schedule to assist customers after hours.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Participate in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities.
- 2‑3 years of diesel experience and/or training, or a combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Ability to obtain a DOT Medical card.
- Commercial Driver License B – preferred but not required.
- Diagnosing basic mechanical problems.
- Thorough understanding of the methods, materials, tools, and techniques used in equipment repair and maintenance.
- Basic understanding of pump station electrical controls and monitoring devices.
- General DC electric and circuit testing skills.
- General diesel engine component location and identification.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues – preferred.
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision; self‑motivated and self‑directed.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, co‑workers, and managers both verbally and in writing.
- Pay range: $29.00 – $33.00 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and skill set.
