Job Description
To provide maintenance services, supervision of staff and ensure that security is maintained in designated University residence halls and apartments while maintaining inventory of all furnishings, managing the work order program of all maintenance activities and documenting all related activities to insure a positive environment coinciding with implementation of goals and guidelines as established by Old Dominion University and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Position is designated "essential personnel" for emergency closings.
- Supervise staff performing maintenance of apartment complexes.
- Ensure security and compliance with university and state guidelines.
- Maintain inventory of furnishings and equipment.
- Manage the work order program and document all related activities.
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on structural, electrical, mechanical/HVAC, and plumbing components.
- Ability, knowledge and skill to perform preventive maintenance and repairs of structural, electrical, mechanical/HVAC, and plumbing components located throughout assigned apartment complexes.
- Proficiency with tools and equipment related to the trades.
- Working knowledge of computers and university programs such as Word, Excel, Lotus Notes.
- Valid Virginia driver’s license and an insurable record.
- High school graduate or GED.
- Training in structural, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing or equivalent work experience.
- Significant experience related to dormitories, apartments, motels, hotels, with strong supervisory experience.
- Optional:
License as journey or master in the skilled trades area.
- In-person reporting required; this position is not eligible for telework.
- Employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to work during university closings.
- Open until filled; position may close after the required posting period when a suitable pool of applicants has been generated.
