Aircraft Survival Flight Equipment Technician I

This occupation includes jobs involved in disassembling, repairing, testing, troubleshooting, examining, fitting, modifying, maintaining, installing, and determining serviceability of aircraft survival and flight equipment such as helmets, torso harness assemblies, preservers, parachutes, life rafts, chemical and biological protective devices, survival kits, oxygen masks, and anti-G-suits. The work includes operational and circuit checks of emergency signaling and communication devices such as survival radios and beacons.

The work requires knowledge of mechanical and electrical repair and maintenance procedures, pyrotechnic and explosive devices, and aircraft egress systems. In addition, the work requires familiarity with aircraft assigned to the unit, detailed knowledge of the operation and characteristics of aircraft survival and flight equipment, and the ability to demonstrate and explain proper usage and operation of the equipment.

Minimum Position

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum two (2) years of actual and recent O or I level H-60S/R/F/H Aircraft Maintenance experience is required or equivalent rotary aircraft experience.
  • Requires knowledge of mechanical and electrical repair and maintenance procedures, pyrotechnic and explosive devices, and aircraft egress systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of the operation and characteristics of aircraft survival flight equipment and the ability to demonstrate and explain proper usage and operation of the equipment.
  • Good oral and written communication skills; working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications; organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) or Rapid Gate Pass.
  • Knowledge and use of special tools/equipment required to perform assigned maintenance tasks is mandatory.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements associated with and pass any medical examination requirements related to performing daily assigned tasks.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

    Prior experience with U.S. Naval repair maintenance operations on military aircraft highly preferred.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is frequently required to walk: use hands to finger, handle, or feel: reach with hands and arms: talk or hear: and taste or smell.

Requires climbing on ladders, scaffolding, and platforms: standing, bending, and working in cramped areas: lifting and carrying tools and equipment which occasionally may weigh over 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Compensation & Benefits:

HIRING HOURLY Rate of Pay: $36.92 (Hourly rate set by CBA)

In accordance with the established Collective Bargaining Agreement, the hourly wage for this position is as follows:

Current: $36.92

On or around 6/1/2027: $38.03

This position includes a competitive benefits package, to include:

  • Paid vacation. Annual allotment in the form of a biweekly accrual as follows: 80 hours for 0-5 years of service, 120 hours for 5-10 years of service, 160 hours for 10+ years of service.

  • 11 Paid holidays annually (prorated dependent on hire date)
