Job TitleCertified State Inspector – Vehicle State Police Safety Inspector (Virginia)
Salary and Working HoursHourly pay ranges from $15 ($20 for Master/SI) up to $35 (World Class/SI/Team Leader). Additional flat‑rate compensation up to $40 per hour is available under a combination plan. Work week is Monday–Friday, closing at 5 PM. Full‑time hours required.
Job DescriptionPerform vehicle state inspections, maintenance, diagnostics and repairs.
Responsibilities- Retrieve customer vehicles into the service area for preparation.
- Review service orders and inspect vehicles, identifying additional repairs or malfunctions through test drives or troubleshooting.
- Diagnose the cause of vehicle malfunctions using technical knowledge.
- Obtain final approval before performing additional repairs.
- Respond promptly to repair inquiries.
- Perform repairs and maintenance work requested, meeting approved quality and efficiency standards.
- Record actual work completed and time spent on each repair order accurately.
- Safely use all required tools and equipment, including creepers, pneumatic and hand tools, welding equipment, two‑ and four‑post lifts and scissor lifts, hydraulic jacks, diagnostic equipment, tire mounting/balancing/alignment machines, and TPMS.
- Purchase, upkeep and store own tools.
- Provide removed cores or parts under warranty for return to the manufacturer.
- Report any problems or discrepancies immediately to management.
- Test‑drive and assure proper operation of all vehicles upon completion.
- Complete vehicle inspections according to established procedures.
- Complete service‑related notes and recommendations in detail and legible format.
- Maintain technical competence by attending classes, shop meetings, and reading service bulletins.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area in compliance with shop and government safety requirements.
- Discard residual waste or hazardous materials following proper disposal methods.

High school diploma or equivalent.
ExperiencePrior work‑related experience is helpful.
Certifications and Licenses- Valid driver’s license meeting insurance underwriting requirements
- Current Virginia State Police Vehicle Safety Inspector’s license (mandatory)
- ASE certification within one year of hire if not already certified
MUST HAVE a current Virginia State Police Vehicle Safety Inspector’s license. Additional certifications and experience may be considered.
