Marine Electrician III – Fleet Services, Norfolk, VA
Continental Tide Defense Systems Inc. (Continental Tide) is headquartered in Reading, PA with additional locations in Philadelphia, San Diego, Bremerton, and Norfolk. We specialize in providing engineering and industrial services to the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, Military Sealift Command, and other Department of Defense organizations.
We are looking for a skilled Marine Electrician III to join our Fleet Services Group performing ship repairs, modernization, and Alteration Installation Team (AIT) projects. The successful candidate will be fully engaged from day one and will work in a fast‑paced environment that values attention to detail, teamwork, and continuous learning.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Inspect, repair, install, modify, and maintain electrical/electronic systems, circuits, and equipment.
- Perform on‑site field service for system grooms and checkouts, minor repairs, and configuration validation.
- Set up, check, and correct operational and experimental electrical machinery, circuitry, and equipment while adhering to established guidelines and engineering specifications.
- Assemble multi‑pin connectors and fiber optic connections.
- Construct components, subunits, or simple models and troubleshoot to correct malfunctions.
- Perform component and system troubleshooting to diagnose problems and recommend cost‑effective repair solutions.
- Read, interpret, and understand simple schematics and blueprints.
- Inspect and test electrical systems and equipment to locate and diagnose malfunctions using visual inspections and testing devices.
- Extract and compile engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., process data, identify errors, and present findings.
- Conduct tests or experiments that may require minor modifications, set up standard test equipment, and record test data.
- Follow layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.
- Must be Copper Connector Certified and possess fiber optic experience.
- Technical expertise with power generation and transmission equipment, motorized valve actuators, PLCs, fiber optics, and integrated network systems.
- Minimum of seven years of practical shipboard experience with HM&E systems and equipment.
- Possess NAVSEA Cableway and Connectorization certifications.
- High school diploma, GED, or industrial school certificate.
- Read and interpret simple schematics and blueprints.
- Repair and replace cables and connectors.
- Install and maintain AC and DC generators, switchboards, distribution panels, lighting, and alarm circuits.
- Familiar with NAVSEA standard practices and procedures for electrical repair, fabrication, and installation.
- Must obtain a Secret clearance and DIBS access to U.S. Navy bases.
- Basic hand tools and physical ability to lift, carry, and transport equipment of at least 30 lbs.
- Capable of working on ladders, in extreme temperatures, aboard ships, and in confined spaces.
- Requirements may involve high heat, humidity, noise, dirty conditions, and exposure to respirators.
- Travel within and outside the continental United States may be required.
- Multi‑pin Connector certification (MIL‑STD‑20035A).
- Fiber Optic certifications: CFOS/O, CFOS/C, CFOS/S, CFOS/T, CFOS/FC.
- Minimum of 7 years as a Marine Electrician with at least 3 years of supervisory experience.
- Experience maintaining budgets and managing material for ferry, dredge, and military vessel electrical systems.
- Compliance with NAVSEA Standard Item requirements.
- Certification for wire‑way inspections per NAVSEA standards.
- Microsoft Office proficiency.
- Ability to identify maintenance issues and recommend solutions to shop superintendents.
- Experience laying out wire ways, pulling and splicing wires, installing lighting fixtures, testing circuits, and instructing apprentices.
- Record motor and generator thrust, clearance, and alignment measures.
- Ability to select substitute electrical components and foresee problems.
- Work in open‑air environments with noise, hot, and cold conditions.
- Visit project sites aboard ships, rigs, and onshore/offshore locations.
