Position Summary

Maintain all heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration systems and associated equipment at a journeyman level. Operate the energy management control system efficiently. This role is designated as essential personnel for emergency closings and may be required to respond to after‑hours calls.

Responsibilities
  • Perform maintenance and repair of institutional HVAC equipment, including PTAC, geothermal, and boiler systems.
  • Operate and troubleshoot HVAC systems using appropriate tools and diagnostic procedures.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and maintenance documents.
  • Respond to after‑hours calls as essential personnel during non‑work hours.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Extensive knowledge of HVAC operations, problem solving for heating, air conditioning, geothermal, and ventilation equipment.
  • Special Licenses &

    Certifications:

    Valid Virginia driver’s license with insurable driving record;
    Virginia Journeyman mechanical license; completion of refrigerant transition and recovery course and tests; certified for Type Universal.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Extensive heating, ventilating, air conditioning, boiler equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Additional Considerations: None beyond those listed.
Conditions of Employment

In‑person reporting to campus. Telework is not eligible. Employees may be required to work during university closings.
