Shipyard Mechanical Fitter – Tanks, Foundations & Bulkheads

Maritime / Ship Repair / Defense Your Mission Stand shoulder-to-shoulder with boilermakers to restore and modernize U.S. Navy, commercial, and government vessels. From tank repairs to structural fit-up, you’ll help deliver safe, accurate, and on-time work that keeps ships deployment-ready.

Your Impact Execute removal, fabrication, repair, and installation of structural ship components alongside boilermakers.

Diagnose and repair tanks, foundations, watertight hatches, bulkheads, and associated gear.

Translate drawings, blueprints, sketches, and technical work docs into precise layouts.

Operate hand/power tools, grinders, air tools, and cutting equipment confidently.

Fit, align, and secure steel assemblies with accuracy.

Prepare surfaces for welding, cutting, and subsequent installation.

Use tape measures, levels, squares, and precision tools to perform layouts and QA checks.

Remove/replace damaged metal structures and equipment as directed.

Work in confined spaces, tanks, and voids; follow all OSHA, NAVSEA, and shipyard safety rules.

Maintain housekeeping and help the team meet schedule and production targets.

What You’ll Need At least 2 years in shipyard, industrial, or heavy mechanical environments (preferred).Background supporting boilermakers, shipfitters, welders, or structural repair teams (strongly preferred).Ability to read plans/specs and familiarity with maritime safety/repair procedures.

Proficiency with standard shipyard tooling and equipment.

Attention to detail and a commitment to craftsmanship.

Reliable transportation and consistent, on-time attendance.

Physical Requirements Lift up to 50 lbs frequently.

Climb ladders, work aloft, and access confined spaces.

Stand, kneel, crouch, and bend for extended durations in varied weather.

Wear required PPE; respirator usage as necessary.

Legal & Eligibility Must be eligible to obtain and maintain shipyard access credentials (DBIDS preferred).Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Shipyard safety certifications are a plus.

Preferred Experience Experience on U.S. Navy ship repair programs.

Work aboard aircraft carriers, submarines, destroyers, amphibious ships, or commercial vessels.

Knowledge of NAVSEA standards and military specs.

Fire Watch, OSHA 10 Maritime, or Confined Space certifications.
